If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter and/or Facebook, then you probably know that I am currently on a 3 day juice cleanse/detox/fast ( more details up coming on 3/5) and as of November, I started intermittent fasting (I'll talk about this in another blog post) as well. This is my very first juice cleanse and it reminds me of the very first fasting experience. Prior to that, I had in mind that fasting was unhealthy and very detrimental to health.
Fast forward to the summer of 2015 and after extensive research, I decided to Join Mr. Ba fasting on Ramadhan. If you don't know what Ramadhan is: It's the ninth month of the Islamic calendar where Muslims around the world abstain from food and drink, smoking, caffeine and sex from sunrise to sunset in order to build faith, closeness to God and community at large and charity to the less fortunate.
Moving on, my first day of fasting was surprisingly swift! I was so determined and pumped with enthusiasm. I can't say the same for day 2. I had a very very difficult time with thirst so I did rink water for the next 3 days. On day 5, I gave up water and went back to dry fasting. It felt so much better than drinking water, for some reason water makes the hunger worst. After a very rough first week, I began to enjoy fasting and continued all the way to the end.
During the course of the 30 days, I had lost a total of 15lbs (approx. 7Kgs), developed clearer skin, got rid of stubborn thigh cellulite and increased mental clarity and productivity.
P/S: I am not a nutritionist, I am just sharing my personal journey and experience with fasting. I also continued with life as usual while fasting, I worked out, went to work etc.
