What fuels you? For me, I have learned through the years that my body is a sacred temple that needs to be well taken care of. Just like we take care of our precious possessions, our body needs the same love and care-if not more.
How did I come to this realization?
It all started when I moved to the states about 8 years ago(2009). I was only 17 and in a new country with a new culture that is very much embedded in food (fast food to be exact). Food was everywhere and people ate all the time. This was unlike back home where we had 4pm specifically scheduled meals a day with breakfast at 7am, lunch at 1pm, dinner at 7pm and evening tea at 5pm
It was my first time eating fast food. We ate at McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, Chinese Buffet etc. I remember the food tasting very bad to me (too sweet, even the chicken tasted sweet) but it I unfortunately grew to tolerate the taste. As the weeks went by, I noticed I was putting on weight at an alarming rate (with my heaviest weight being 95 Kilos or 210lbs).
This was just the beginning of a very long journey for me . I had always been a healthy girl, but I started developing skin issues and also asthma. Fast forward summer of 2010, I got accepted to University and decided to change my life. I started taking walks and before I knew it I started running, Pilates and yoga. With exercise and a big change on my diet, I was down to a solid 72 Kilos or 160lbs.
So there you have it! My story back to health. I’ll continue this series of what fuels you as I discover more about health, ups, downs and sideways of it all, exercise, post-natal body progress etc. Stay tuned!
With much love,
