As you probably know, I am a Licensed Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Agent as of 2 months now. I shared the news in a previous blog post. Read all about it here.
It’s been a long journey to get my real estate license because the content involved in real estate can be quite intense. Especially if you are new to real estate. That is why I am going to be sharing quite abit on real estate in this blog.
Passing your real estate exam is a very crucial part of being a real estate agent. In MA, you need to complete 40 hours of classes from a board approved real estate school, be 18 years or older, Understand and speak English, be in good standing (e.g. no convictions, fraud etc.), provide references and pass your exams with 70% or higher. If you tick off all of these, then you can become a licensed Real Estate Agent in MA.
Exceptions are attorneys and in the case of the death of a sole proprietor broker.
The exam is broken down into two parts: State and National/General. The state part of the exam focuses on state specific questions and is 80 scored questions which include 10% math questions and 5 unscored pre-test questions. The National/General exam includes general real estate questions as it pertains to the United States. The National/ General exam is the shortest and has 40 questions which include 5-10 unscored pretest questions.
In total, the exam is 120 questions and in MA, you have a total of 4 hours to finish the exam. The test is administered by the Pearson VUE and there are designated centers to take the test. As always things always change. So always refer to your state real estate board.
